Day1- 2021 -A third journey in our waka across a rough sea
Greetings and welcome back on a new journey of discovery. Today the 8th April 2021 Renene and I launched our waka back onto the troubled waters in search of a new journey of discovery and a new destination. Today we wet the paddles once again as we start to drive forward and navigate our way through unknown turbulence with a desire to safely and successfully make our transition. In January we discovered a recurrence of the lung cancer we believed we had progressed well down the route of recovery. New lesions in rib and local nodes so now stage 4 disease. Control not cure. I remain lucky in managing generally good overall health despite the challenges so we start still from a good overall position. I will be hard at work on the paddle along with Renene but increasingly I will need to depend on her and her ongoing support and love to take more of the load . There will be a time when my extended family may need to join us to help us paddle against the storms ahead . I know they too have the strength to bend their efforts to the paddles
We have been blessed to have had the last 13 months to refurbish our waka whilst protected on our stable whenua/land . We have restocked our personal resources and built our strength to face whatever the new journey requires of us. Even the threat of a massive financial sacrifice in obtaining modern tools. ( medicines) to assist with the navigation .
Chemo component. 2 drugs 2 hours . Free hospital funded service administered before private hospital immunotherapy
Whilst we were safe on our whenua/land here in New Zealand we have been blessed by the marriage of our daughter Courtney to Lewis Chellew and they have recently presented us with a beautiful and amazing new moko/ grandson “Preston Gray Chellew”.
Time we have been given, thankfully, to share the great benefits of family and life in a secure and Covid quiet land
We have refurbished our yacht Tryin Flyin and she looks amazing on the water but we travel in a different vessel to her and she may well be a sacrifice to the new journey ahead. Many years of great sailing on her wings but now both physically challenging for me and an asset that may contribute towards the financial burden we may face as we travel forward .
Beautiful words Grahame, this is all so hard but you so deserve to get a miracle along the way. Your courage is inspiring. I know you will fight for every day. Lots to stick around for.....
ReplyDeleteFollowing your waka. Preston Gray is a blessing. A BIG blessing -- -- --
ReplyDeleteAlthough not the news you would have been wanting to hear, I truly admire your courage and positive outlook as you stand strong, readying yourself for the journey ahead of you. I am here for you as a colleague and friend, if you need anything - you are always able to ask. Kia kaha
