D - 36 - Celebrate , Remember, Fight back

Sunflowers for Victoria Thompson today. A brave young lass gone too soon from a wonderful Chipinge, Zimbabwe family. Victoria , together with Jonathan and Shereen have been on both Renene  and my mind today. So I wear sunflowers today for Victoria.  Today has been one of my most challenging of whole journey to date and I have used the strength displayed by this wonderful family as a bolster for my day as an example.

Woke early. Toss and turn of a night.   Pragmatism can sometimes get in way of positive thought process. Has though started my “headspace”cogitation processing  “ so what now”. 3 days of current challenge to go so getting to end of that core focus and goal. Feeling a bit vulnerable about the”what’s next”. Seemed almost easier when dealing with the perception of how treatment would negatively impact on my overall well-being. Now it’s future thinking again. Unknown road ahead! Scary thought!

Renene has found me a great book with some sound advice . The Cancer Survivor’s Companion by Dr Frances Goodhart and Lucy Atkins.

Speaks to me straight away when relates to a yachting dilemma and trouble with safe return to harbour.

Number of challenges today. Brendan returns to Melbourne and we met at airport for coffee between flights from Kerikeri to Auckland and the Auckland to Melbourne. So grateful for transport and support from Renene’s brother Pey. Thanks ”Boet”.

Courtney driving back in my car from Kerikeri with second cousin Chanel and fiancĂ© Shaun via various tourist points of interest including Paihia and  a visit along with her Grandfather ”Oupey” (Prop) to Kawiti caves.

Will be relieved when she safely back with us here in Auckland.

Radiation visit 3rd last one and then follow up with radiation oncology specialist. Seems we will complete Monday then have specialist review in 6 - 8 weeks and CT scan in 3 months. So now we wait again for any real evidence of benefit. Seems we likely to wait 4 - 6 weeks of recovery before consideration immunotherapy even if we are successful in funding application.

Renene reassures me we will use the time to get us both back on our feet physically and mentally whilst we wait. We will enjoy getting back to our own home, own bed, our dogs , sheep, guineafowl and chickens. Focus on good nutrition and I am going to commit to regular exercise under supervision. We will focus on getting the “Pod” at Wobble Inn functional and hopefully succcessful. Finish the “Nut hut” as a backpacker or “trail angel”option  for trampers and cyclists.

Maybe a chance for some rest and recuperation at Tauranga Bay Holiday Park with group of old Zimbabwe friends. Sun fishing and good company difficult to beat.

Thinking of some Aussie and Pacific Island travel if up to it. Some special friends to see and support.
